I’m feeling really confused about this setup. I created a sky factory server on my computer so friends and I could join whenever we wanted. On my Netgear Orbi router, I arranged the TCP and UDP ports using my desktop’s local IP address. I added exceptions to the Windows firewall so inbound traffic on those ports would work, and set the rule to allow all traffic from any network. I used Simple Port Tester to confirm the ports were open, and they worked fine. When I tried to start the server, I got a message saying it couldn’t connect using localhost (127.0.0.1). I have to use my own IP address (192.168.1.17) instead. My friends got the router’s public IP, but when they tried to join, they kept getting a timeout error. The logs show basic info like “LAN access from remote,” but they don’t give much detail. I’m not sure why this isn’t working or why it doesn’t connect with localhost. Any advice would be super helpful, and please explain it simply as if you were five years old in the year 2000.

That worked! I think I’ll take another look at my life once I make this mistake.

These basic aspects are what lead you here. I've spent a lot of time thinking I was wrong, but don't worry about it.
