Unable to activate XMP following the BIOS upgrade.
I assisted my father in assembling a PC for photo editing around 2022. Recently, I updated the BIOS. After that, I couldn't re-activate XMP. When attempting to enable it in the BIOS, I encountered an error saying "The system has POSTed in safe mode…". I adjusted the DRAM speed slightly lower than the default (3000 instead of 3200) and managed to boot into Windows, though the system was unstable. Frequent crashes and graphical problems appeared. Since I lacked time for deeper troubleshooting, I disabled XMP. The machine has generally run well, but my father noted some performance drops and issues. He mentioned occasional freezing in Photoshop, making it hard to click or move the mouse, but eventually he could close Photoshop from Task Manager. Would these problems resolve with XMP enabled? How can I get it working again? I’m unsure what steps to take next and need guidance to avoid further damage.
Consider testing the newest BIOS if you have the time—I think it’s a good idea.
I attempted to update the BIOS to the latest version (3811) but couldn't get the system to start with XMP enabled. The same error persisted after rolling back to version 3601. Could you share any additional tips for resolving this issue?
The issues you're facing with PS are unrelated to XMP on or off. It's unclear what prompted the BIOS update.
