It's been quite some time since I've used onboard video, and I remember there were times when you needed to turn it off or at least avoid using the onboard GPU during discrete GPU installations. I also recall adjusting the BIOS settings to disable it, though the last instance was likely over a decade ago.
It's automatically configured for me. I even tried forcing the board to start with just the built-in GPU, but it didn't work well—black screens appeared even when I swapped in my own GPU.
