Unable to access a digital game (Steam, Crysis 2)
Hey! This is my first time sharing this, sorry for any unclear writing. In 2011 I bought Crysis 2 in limited edition on Steam—it was a great game, and I’ve been downloading and playing it regularly ever since. When you start the game, it shows a serial verifier, which Steam gives you to enter. The problem was that the key got used up too many times, even though I own several computers now. I contacted both EA and Steam, but they just blamed each other and said the other side needed to fix it. For me, it was a real wake-up call: will this game I paid for in 2011 ever stop working? I heard the remastered version doesn’t have the same serial checker, but for me it’s about being able to play it as long as I want.
I also had an issue in 2021 when I asked EA and they fixed it. It seems their ticket system doesn’t remember old cases well—once you get a ticket, all your history gets lost. Even though they apologized then, they didn’t change their approach. I’ve reached out to Crytek too, hoping for an update. I’m glad I still have physical copies of my favorite games!
I think this might be better as a discussion than a simple fix request, but if anyone knows what to ask or who to contact, I’d really appreciate it!
This situation involves a hypothetical where piracy isn't allowed by guidelines, but it's framed as a scenario that wouldn't cause offense if the game were illegally shared.
I understand your perspective, and I share your concerns. This issue seems likely to grow, and these fixes are always vulnerable to malicious programs, regardless of how cautious you are. It’s worth considering who should be held accountable—Steam, EA, Crytek? Should I be asking for more activation options? Is the purchase limited to a few copies or is it a permanent license for my devices?
