Today Ubutnu has locked me up and I had to restart. Details: Ryzen 2600x, 16 GB RAM, Radeon 5700, OS version 18.04.3 LTS GNOME 3.28.2, kernel 5.3.2-050302-generic. I needed a kernel upgrade for the GPU to function properly so I could run multiple mounts. The problem appears when using Chrome—sometimes it won’t wake up after a while.

If Chrome isn't active, does that mean it's functioning correctly? Are you sure it's current?

Chrome stays active even after I leave it running. It's a brand new Ubutnu install—just a week old. I'm using Chrome: version 77.0.3865.90 (Official Build) for 64-bit. I have several windows open with multiple tabs each. While Chrome isn't my favorite, I've got all my bookmarks ready and know how to use it best. I tried Firefox, but I can't really navigate its interface well.

It depends on what you're trying to do. If Chrome isn't running, some features might not work properly. Check the specific task and see how it behaves.

Close Chrome and switch to Firefox for one day. Still have problems? Firefox's interface isn't too bad.

You just ran an Update command in the terminal. It seems a kernel update was applied, along with some graphics-related changes. I’m curious if that triggered the problem. The screen went black shortly after, and it might be related to drivers. You’re considering upgrading to the latest release because your GPU is outdated.

I've attempted to use Firefox, but the interface feels overwhelming and even made me think about harming myself. With many items linked to my Google account, I switched to Chrome instead.

Well, if you can't give up for a day on a basic troubleshooting issue, it might be a personal problem. I'm surprised that a respected member of this forum couldn't afford to make even a small effort to resolve the issue.

I decided to keep the device running without any connections. If it functions after some time, I’ll need to return to Chromium.
