You're looking for a volume controller compatible with Xfce on an older Ubuntu system. This typically means finding a simple, lightweight solution like `dvc` or `VLC Volume Manager`. Start by checking the official Xfce documentation or repositories for recommended tools. If you're comfortable with basic commands, installing from the package manager is straightforward. If you're still learning Linux, take your time and explore the options step by step.

Hey YetZed, welcome to Linux. I hope you're not running into too many obstacles... I promise it gets simpler with practice. Pavucontrol is the standard audio mixer for xfce4 on Ubuntu. Verify installation by running dpkg -l pavucontrol. To add it: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pavucontrol. It’s a good idea to read this guide—you’ll likely have more queries ahead. This will give you quick, precise answers and steer clear of some less helpful community sources. It also directs you to the right forum: highly recommended, as being misled by wrong advice can be costly. For instance, this topic fits better on askUbuntu.com or the Xfce IRC channel (the LMG Forum is active and diverse). Plus, meeting the prerequisites will definitely boost your Linux understanding faster. In short, "Google is your friend!" Welcome to Linux!

The error has been corrected. Here are four relevant sources:

1. Xfce4-Mixer documentation – troubleshooting common issues.
2. User forum discussion on Xfce4 installation problems.
3. TechSupport guide for resolving application conflicts.
4. Community thread about adding extra source files in mixer setup.

Please let me know if you need more details.

You're seeing the same issue repeatedly... It seems the package isn't found.

I encounter the same issue with the package. xfce4-mixer is only accessible through the wily repositories. It's not found on xenial or yakkety repos. Apologies for this limitation. During installation, pavucontrol—used as a volume mixer—was added when installing xfce4, so the default on Ubuntu would be pavucontrol if xfce4-mixer isn't available. Sorry about that. I recommend updating to account for this. Pavucontrol is present in all mirrors, so I'll omit xfce4-mixer from the suggestions.
