Yes, it's possible to run Ubuntu Server as both a NAS and an operating system for four users at the same time. It can be done, though it requires some setup and understanding. As a beginner in Linux, you'll need to learn basic commands and possibly use tools like SSH for remote access. Adding other applications will add complexity, so plan carefully. Since you're from Germany, don't worry—just ask questions and stay curious!

Your financial plan is important. Could you share your budget details?

I already have a setup (a friend has an unused Xeon machine I could take). All I need is some free software and a bit of experience, though this is still purely hypothetical right now.

The toughest part is the drives. It seems odd to force 4 users onto a single OS except Windows. What do you want to keep on the NAS, and how much room do you require?

Yes, you have flexibility in what you can achieve. There are no licensing or edition limits like those in proprietary systems. Just search the terminal for the application name using apt, and install it with sudo. For web searches, try "archwiki" or "debianwiki" as keywords. The only issue I noticed is that "am" should be replaced with "I am" or "I'm," similar to how someone says "Ich bin."

You're planning to go with 1TB storage. It looks like you have enough important data for now, so a RAID setup isn't necessary at this time. You can expand later if needed.

Would you like cloud storage? It’s a great option for affordability. Onedrive offers 1TB for around $7 per month, including the full Office 365 package.

This speed seems too slow for my needs, especially with my planned IT career. I’d likely need stronger data security skills to support that role.
