Your computer doesn't recognize UEFI, yet Ubuntu manages to install there and still fails to boot. This issue appears to be specific to your Chromebook. You may need to check the BIOS settings or try updating the firmware.

It includes UEFI but it's turned off for USB devices, causing boot failure when using UEFI only. The Gallium OS Live tool doesn't start, whereas Ubuntu does in BIOS mode and installs via UEFI. The Ubuntu version starts in BIOS while the other boots in UEFI.
