I’m working on restoring an old laptop by installing Ubuntu on a new hard drive, but it’s refusing to boot with the new drive. It seems to only load the installer DVD, not the actual Ubuntu installation media. The issue is it can’t locate a live file system on the new SSD. Since the processor is an Intel i3 from the first generation, that might be relevant.

I can't directly copy DVD contents to your HDD. However, you can use a media converter or software to transfer the data from the DVD to your computer storage.

Many individuals nowadays use USB drives to install operating systems. Have you given it a shot?

I’m able to, though Ubuntu assumes I’m using a USB stick or DVD and insists on moving it to a hard drive, but when I try to download there’s no available spot listed.

I attempted it earlier with a DVD, but it indicated that no boot disc was present.

It identifies it, though there seems to be a preference for starting from the hard drive rather than the DVD even when you select it in the BIOS.

Consider installing it on a different machine first, then returning the HDD to the laptop.
