You have a Supermicro X8DEH+-F with ICH10R SATA/FakeRaid and two 120GB SSDs. The Ubuntu Server Installer isn't recognizing the drives, even after testing Intel and Adaptec RAID modules in RAID 0, AHCI, and IDE. Both Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04 are refusing to see the disks. You've tried initializing them on another machine with a different MBR partition table, but nothing works. The BIOS sees the drives and allows RAID configuration, yet Ubuntu doesn't detect them. You're planning to check the SuperMicros BOIS update process before returning. Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you using both Ubuntu versions? The server version needs to be more stable with hardware drivers. I might try the newest desktop release and compare.

Thank you for your reply. The BIOS is restarting now. I'll attempt a desktop version after the update if it doesn't resolve the issue.

Check the disk after adding it to a raid array, but not as separate drives. I don’t know why yet. Probably searching for a SAS2 card on eBay. If I’m using raid, it should be a full hardware setup, not just the fake RAID option. I assumed the board had a rebranded LSI or Adaptec chip, but I wouldn’t have it now. I just need one for my LTO Tap drive—it’s not a big deal. Still frustrating.
