Navigate to the settings area. An on-screen keyboard should be available within the Universal Access options.

Laptops tend to be tricky to get running. Use GRUB kernel commands to adjust settings: disable acpi if needed, set acpi_osi accordingly. After entering the USB live, press E before booting Ubuntu and run those commands. It seems the issue isn’t a driver fault but rather ACPI not recognizing devices when Windows isn’t detected.
