I've never managed to play LOL on wine—it kept lagging and performed poorly. Switching from Unity doesn't seem like an improvement. Gnome 3 handles the entire UI on one thread and often crashes. I'm sticking with KDE until it's completely rebuilt. It also consumes a lot of memory, but it runs smoothly.

Yes, I'm using the Mate edition on my Xeon server. It has 24 threads running BOINC and only requires about 1GB of RAM. The installation was straightforward.

I tried Ubuntu Mate as well, mostly because I used Mint Mate before and hoped for reliable drivers. Probably we’ll see results; I plan to install it soon. With my slow internet connection, downloading updates and drivers will take a long time.
