UBISOFT launches "Ghostwriter", an AI solution for game scriptwriting!
Hello everyone,
We’re all aware of how crucial AI and artificial intelligence tools have become in the gaming world. Although AI has traditionally been applied beyond games—such as coding scripts or writing dialogue—there’s a possibility it could shift soon. With the surge in advanced AI applications for image creation, enhancement, and other areas, many are curious if game creators will adopt these technologies. It looks like Ubisoft is among the first to explore this potential. According to their statements, an “AI tool” is currently assisting their developers in crafting dialogue for some of their titles.
This AI, named Ubisoft Ghostwriter, was developed by Ubisoft La Forge. At GDC 2023, Ubisoft revealed insights about its new narrative generative AI, which supports scriptwriters by drafting initial versions of NPC barks—the sounds or lines NPCs make when players engage with the game. The tool was designed in collaboration with writers to enhance realism by generating varied dialogue snippets. It aims to help streamline repetitive writing tasks, allowing more focus on core game development aspects.
The AI is intended to aid screenwriters, but some feel it may reduce emotional depth and make dialogues sound flat. This approach has sparked debate among journalists, writers, and authors who are wary of AI’s role in scriptwriting. Alanah Pearce from Sony’s Santa Monica office expressed concern, noting that using AI for editing could slow down the creative process rather than speed it up.
Additionally, the term “Machine Learning” is often used loosely to describe this technology, but opinions differ. Some argue that Machine Learning isn’t the same as Artificial Intelligence, a point supported by an article by AlfonsoRReyes on Medium. Ubisoft clarifies that their tool is more about deep learning than true AI, and it’s not intended to replace human writers entirely.
The announcement highlights the growing trend of AI integration in gaming, signaling a significant shift. Whether this change benefits the industry remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the AI revolution is here.
It's not just about UBI, I believe many publishers and developers are facing similar challenges. While criticism has increased recently, they've begun adjusting their plans and strategies, and some newer titles seem to be improving. Particularly in the Assassin's Creed and Far Cry series.
Sorry for the delay in my response.
Honestly speaking, you are actually correct. FC6 is a pretty bad release, and it has the same copy/paste gameplay formula like previous FC games. But since I'm addicted to FPS titles, I bought it nonetheless. The story and graphics are
okay-ish
, but the performance is abysmal even on high-end PCs.
The game is also badly optimized. Not to mention the sudden
unexpected
FPS drop in between the gameplay. I finished the game somehow though. Actually by FC
franchise
I also meant to include some older games like FC 4 and FC 5 as well.
Anyway, regarding AC:VALHALLA, I have mostly positive feedback to give. I really loved the game's storyline and the NORDIC setting and the cultural depiction. Even the combat is quite satisfying, and the game developers have actually made a LOT of gameplay design changes.
The combat is now more fluid, but at the same time the overall performance is not that good in some of the game levels/areas. But I really liked the voice acting and story. I assume some gamers think beforehand that since this is a game made by UBISoft, so it HAS to be pretty bad.
But in my opinion, that's not the case. I mean some people have that negative notion in their mind when it comes to UBI, which can be psychological as well, and to some extent they are correct, but AC: Valhalla doesn't seem to be in the same boat as previous UBI titles. At least that's based on my own personal experience.
I hope I didn't sound like an
exceptional
AC player, LOL.
FC4 was fine, though I didn't like it too much. New Dawn wasn't terrible either.
Isn't this a track by Rush? That wasn't Ghost Rider.
