Not that I own this game but has anyone seen what Ubisoft is doing apparently cutting access from some of their games? If this rumor is true they should be ashamed. I get taking away multiplayer but if they take away your ability to access the game at all they should be required to issue a patch or a way to download a drm free version for people who actually paid real money for their games.
In the realm of digital delivery and similar matters, you don't possess a right to a physical copy of the game. What you purchased was merely a license with all the conditions and agreements attached. Likely, within those terms and conditions, the publisher has the freedom to act as they see fit at any time. Moreover, even if you were able to download it from Steam or retain a backup, it probably depended on UPlay. At that point, they would have simply blocked your access.
That is a hot issue with software licenses, but unless someone big enough to challenge basically every commercial software vendor in the world steps up for a long protracted legal and political battle, this is what we have to live with.
