Hello, I usually don’t post much, but I’m open to a quick tip. I’m considering switching to an Ubiqiti CCTV camera and want to make sure it works with my existing setup. I have a Netgear POE switch now, and I’m wondering if I need a separate Ubiqiti switch or if my current 8-port PoE port can handle one of their cameras. Thanks!

To operate the Protect application and manage video storage, you’ll need either a Cloud Key version 2 or a UniFi Dream Machine/Pro. No alternative hosting or control options exist at this time.

The switch should function properly with these devices. Most UniFi cameras support PoE via 802.3af, though verify your specific model isn't using 802.3at—confirm compatibility if needed. For storage and management, you'll require a Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus (not standard Gen 2), a Dream Machine/Pro, or a UniFi NVR to operate protect. Older cameras can be run with UniFi Video on various operating systems, though it's outdated and unsupported. Regarding UniFi Protect, it works for home setups but isn't recommended for business use due to limited features and frequent UI changes.
