I believe my son's mods folder used to be about 30gb. However, I faced a lot of trouble cleaning it up enough for smooth gameplay—there were startup problems, online issues, and failed updates. I spent a whole weekend working on that game. Despite the challenges, the game itself is great and I really enjoy it. I ran it with AI to test its performance, which was impressive! Before I cleaned out the case (it was really dirty inside), the CPU fan kept running at full speed all the time. There was dog hair and dust blocking the heat sink. I didn’t clean it last year after moving to a new house, so many mods stopped working after an update in spring.
It wouldn’t have been during that chaotic update rush from May to October when they pushed changes every couple of weeks. That’s roughly when I began experiencing problems—perhaps it was more than just the mod itself.
Uncertain, but it seems the game with an active mod is still leaking memory. Or maybe it’s just gradually consuming it. It could have been a time of year. The weather was nice. What I know is he has a 500GB drive full of games. I keep urging him to clear the mod folder—it might free up about 20GB if he sorts through and deletes unused files. But since he’s only 10, that might be too much for his skill level.
He has autism and is 21 now. He’s a thoughtful person who often talks to himself and enjoys deep discussions. He solves problems quietly but out loud, without being overly loud. He’s not into video games or tech like that, but he loves fire alarm equipment and runs his own YouTube channel. (He’s not wealthy, just honest.)
I've understood the distinction between committed RAM and in-use RAM. Essentially, once your committed memory hits its limit, or nears it, applications may face problems because additional RAM can't be allocated. To lower your committed memory, you might need to adjust settings or manage resource allocation. Sometimes, a situation arises where 20GB is used while 28.5GB remains committed.
I neglected to turn that off earlier, thinking using a hard drive for RAM would slow things down. I adjusted the setting to zero. Research suggests you should allocate roughly 1.5 times your installed RAM for virtual memory. With 32GB installed, that means around 48GB should be reserved, which is quite substantial. To boost performance, consider re-enabling virtual memory but limiting it to a small portion—perhaps 1-2GB—to ensure access without over-reliance.
