The setup shows dimm1, dimm2, dimm3, dimm4. For dual channel performance, you’d need dual DIMM slots with compatible chipsets. You could add RAM in any slot, but ensure it matches the required configuration. Check the specific model for dual-channel support requirements.

I discovered this on memory.net, it might be useful. The general DIMM population guideline for upgrading the Dell Precision T3600 is worth noting—some rules may apply. When combining memory speeds, all four DIMMs should operate at the lowest DDR3-1333 bus frequency. Place DIMMs farthest from the processor first. Avoid installing DIMMs if the matching processor isn't present. In a two CPU system with only one installed, half the slots remain unused. For best performance, distribute total memory evenly across all processors. It's not mandatory, but aligning channels can help. Edit: I see a diagram suggesting this arrangement (red=a1; yellow=a2).

The CPU and motherboard both back up to quad channels. To get the best performance, fill all four slots with identical high-speed DIMMs. For dual channel, just use any two slots.
