Hello everyone, my query concerns my RAM setup on a Ryzen 5 1600. I initially installed 4GB due to budget constraints, later adding another 8GB (essentially doubling the capacity). Now I have three 4GB modules and am curious which configuration is optimal for Ryzen performance. I’m currently using two sticks, achieving successful overclocking at 3000MHz with identical timings. Adding a third stick has limited me to around 2933MHz on the CL15. Regarding my next steps, should I upgrade to new RAM or simply purchase another 4GB stick to reach a total of 16GB?
Two sticks perform better for overclocking. With three sticks you only achieve 8GB in dual channel, leaving 4GB in single channel—this will cause a clear performance drop. Adding another four GB stick is more affordable. Unless you trade in your existing three sticks for a proper 2x8GB package, the latter is likely cheaper.
