Hello everyone, I'm facing a challenge with my current setup. I have 32GB of RAM for video editing and animation, using Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (2x16) DDR4 at 3200MHz. Previously, I had Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) at 3000MHz. If I were to add the older sticks, could it affect stability? I think I'd need to adjust the newer memory speed to 3000MHz, but there might be other changes required since the memory types differ (C16 vs C15). My system includes a Ryzen 7 2700X, AMD Radeon RX590, ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero X470, and I'm using DaVinci Resolve 17.1 and Affinity Photo.

You might attempt to run all RAM simultaneously at the slowest common speed, such as DDR4-3000 CL15. It could succeed or fail—just experiment to determine. Keep in mind that DDR4-3000 CL15 matches the latency of DDR4-3200 CL16 by a factor of 10ns due to the calculation. Be sure to examine other timing details carefully. You can reverse calculate the exact latency in nanoseconds for each setting and adjust accordingly.

It should work well at 3000mhz cl15 without stability problems. Running a memory test like memtest is a good idea to catch any errors during speed variations.

Don't worry about what was said. Proceed with running memtest86 through all four passes. For extra assurance, also execute the HCI Design memtest. Using the HCI Design version, perform 16 tests—one per CPU thread—each handling 2.25GB (totaling 75% of your 48GB RAM) and aim for at least 300% completion.

Not in real life, but unstable RAM might damage your OS. Check stability with memtest86 before restarting. If you accidentally boot into Windows, it’s likely okay.
