I recently started using 2 PC streaming. I discovered one approach with obs and i found both devices connected to the same network through ethernet. But I faced some issues along the way. *PC 2 needed to be in another room because I don’t have a long Ethernet cable at home, and the setup in my apartment is already problematic.* (This was resolved using synergy.) *Synergy stopped working on PC 1 even after uninstalling and reinstalling it. Even then, sharing wasn’t smooth with PC 1. If PC 2 used Wi-Fi instead, synergy would function properly.* I previously planned to share both PCs over a single internet connection, so I bought crossover adapters and a PCI-E Ethernet card. Now I’m stuck. After installing the PCI adapter on PC 2, I can’t get it to share internet with the other PC’s Ethernet port. The setup is like this: main port into the motherboard, adapter out to PC 1, then adapter to PC 2. *I’m using crossover adapters between the two PCs, assigning different IP addresses.* It seems I’m missing some steps to make it work. Frustrating. Currently, the new adapter shows “unknown network, no internet access,” while the gaming PC is on a private network with no connection. I’m willing to give up and buy a switch, but I’m trying to figure this out myself. How can I properly share internet so I can troubleshoot synergy and get both PCs back online?

Crossover cables and switches lack predefined network identifiers, making their IDs unpredictable. Connecting them to a router or using Wi-Fi resolves the issue. Wi-Fi actually works well for streaming high-quality video.

I've configured it this way now—recreated the homegroup so the single PC handling internet traffic manages and hosts the group. I'm considering using Wi-Fi, as per my research, NDI works best with a wired LAN without extra latency or quality issues. Also, there were necessary updates for both motherboard ports, which is taken care of.

Attempted Wi-Fi connection failed. PC2 needs to receive the NDI stream, but latency remains high. Quality reduction didn’t help. Revisiting troubleshooting steps: router settings, Stream PC, PCI-E Ethernet port, Game PC HomeNetwork configured with matching workgroup and crossover adapters used. Manually set IP for the link in IPv4. Synergy stopped communication between gaming PC and streaming PC. However, if the streaming PC connects to Wi-Fi, it can share with the gaming PC.

Successfully routed internet through PC 2 which connects directly to the modem. Extensive testing and troubleshooting were required. Removed crossover adapters despite their initial help with homegroup access. Restored both computers to homegrouping, disabling main adapter and Wi-Fi on PC 2. Re-enabled adapter 1 for internet access. Configured sharing via settings; initially only shared with adapter 2 when Wi-Fi was active. Chose Ethernet adapter for sharing after confirming IP configurations. Auto IP settings remained enabled. Ensured DNS server was set correctly from the main connection. Gaming PC reported successful connection, but Synergy still failed to establish. Submitted logs and support ticket for resolution.
