Hi, after reviewing the video with ptm7950, I chose to refurbish my i5-8265U T490. Under heavy load it slows down a lot. While checking disassembly guides, I saw that the CPU has two chips and some people applied thermal paste, others didn’t. What should I do? Thermal pad? Thanks ahead of time.

I think it's either the iGPU or the I/O die, though I'm not sure which one. Either way, if it was shipped from the factory, it should work fine. If not, maybe skip it. @Wojtuz

I applied paste to those components. They've been used for various roles in laptop CPUs throughout the years—such as memory controller, I/O, or GPU.

It seems like an extra component, likely an integrated graphics processor. It probably uses a fair amount of energy and generates a lot of warmth. Putting a layer between the chips saves nothing, so go ahead and apply the paste.
