I'm using a Netgear R6020 with dual-band support. I want to know if I can utilize the 5 GHz network for transferring data between my laptops and PC. I connect via Ethernet on the 2.4 GHz band, but I need guidance on switching to 5 GHz for faster transfers. Additionally, I'm curious about other possible uses for a dual-band router.

For devices to operate on 5GHz, both the router and the end device must support that frequency. Your router can handle it, which is great. However, the issue likely lies with your device not being compatible with 5GHz. This might be the reason you're experiencing problems.

You link to the 5GHz frequency band instead of 2.4GHz and proceed with your transfers. That's the complete summary.

Ethernet and Wi-Fi are incompatible; you must pick one. All devices will still be handled by the same chip. A 5GHz laptop will link to a PC via Ethernet at that speed.
