Hello, my name is Robin. I purchased two 2x4Gig DIMMS to pair with my existing two 4 Gig DIMMs. The BIOS doesn’t actually use them, but when I check the System Overview in the BIOS (Asus Mainboard System Overview), all four slots are listed as 4 Gigs each (it gets more confusing). In Windows, the Task Manager shows it using up to 8 Gigs maximum, though it’s currently assigned 14.9 Gigs (see screenshot – sorry for the German text). I came across the same issue before and discovered a fix for myself. My motherboard is an AsRock 970 pro3 R2.0, and I installed 16GB of Kingston 1133 (four 4GB modules). Windows 10 x64 and Windows 8.1 x64 display 16GB total but only 12GB available, meaning 4GB is reserved for the system. None of the fixes I found online worked for me. I checked the manufacturer's website for my motherboard and didn’t see my memory models listed in the DRAM compatibility section. The sticks I had were DDR3-1333 (four 4GB units), but only 2GB and 8GB compatible versions existed. The answer was to adjust the BIOS settings and set the memory speed to match the compatible option. The nearest match was a 4GB DDR3-1066MHz stick, which I switched from 1133 to 1066. Now all my memory is usable again. I hope someone can help me with my remaining usable space.
