TV won't show a picture until you plug the HDMI cable in late.
Hey guys, hope you can help me! Here is what happened: Last year I built a gaming PC for my TV (HTPC) with Windows, a Ryzen processor, an NVIDIA card, and lots of RAM. Recently, I wanted to switch to SteamOS instead. So I bought a used graphics card and swapped out the old one, cleaned it up, and tried running SteamOS on my TV: nothing showed up. I thought maybe it was a cable or driver issue and that the HDMI port on the GPU only works after installing all the software. So I plugged the HTPC into my PC monitor using DisplayPort and it worked perfectly. Then I installed SteamOS, which went fine too (I did this with the normal monitor). When I reconnected the HTPC to the TV, nothing showed up. But when I plug it into any other TV or monitor, everything works great. I tried different HDMI cables too, still no luck. The problem seems to be only between my PC and this specific TV, because laptops, a Chromecast, and other TVs all work fine with the same ports and cables I use with the HTPC. However, when I turn on the HTPC first and plug an HDMI cable into the TV after about 20 seconds, the TV shows up and works normally. What is wrong here?
One guess is that DDU didn't totally remove old drivers and settings. The TV might be acting wrong because of startup order, not really failing to respond. It could take about 20 seconds for everything to finish setting up itself before talking properly. What kind of TV do you have? Did you read the User Guide or Manual? Maybe try downloading the drivers for your graphics card and TV (if they exist) from a website, then reinstall them all again and reset things as needed. Just do this by yourself without using any special tools or programs made by others.
