The challenge is: without the physical switch at the back. Is there a method using Windows features to achieve this? You want to disable it via double-click, then restore it with mouse movement or key presses—without putting the PC to sleep. Ideally, you'd like a simple script, possibly in Python, that works with the default Windows command prompt and leverages tools like Power Toys for automation. It would be helpful if you don’t need deep coding skills; otherwise, it should feel straightforward.

Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Power options > System settings Assign your power or sleep button to turn off the display If you don't want to do this, there is also a nice simple program called ScreenOff, as well as another more in-depth one called Don'tSleep that provides better power options than Windows.

They kept using those icons because they were familiar and comfortable, even though newer versions were available.

The optimal approach is using the integrated screen-off timer. (Or I was using one before I switched to a TV for display)

You can find helpful tools to create scripts and even assign custom keyboard shortcuts for running them.

I attempted this and it just launches an empty PowerShell window. The menu is present, but nothing changes. I tried deleting and reattaching it, yet the same issue persists. It’s set to do nothing and still powers off the PC instantly—this sounds like a hardware or system feature. I’ve noticed Windows seems to have six different operating systems with a trenchcoat. “Screen Off” worked, but the code snippet didn’t help.
