Adjust the settings so Windows Update doesn’t affect only your graphics card, without removing your ability to install drivers yourself. I understand the policy setup for hardware IDs works, but I’m looking for a workaround that stops updates for just that device. I tried searching online but didn’t find a clear solution beyond disabling updates or using hardware ID policies. Could you help me figure this out? Thanks!

Manual updates won't cancel Windows Update changes. The optional feature Windows Update provides is indeed optional—EDIT. Also, the driver changes during hardware upgrades are a separate matter. Edited January 16, 2022 by Eighjan

Windows doesn't support installing older drivers. Some may appear in the "Optimal Updates" area, though it might indicate: if you encounter issues with your existing ones... meaning they're outdated but Microsoft has seen fewer complaints. You can try them. The approval and validation process by the maker is lengthy, often causing delays or lagging behind other versions.
