Greetings all. So its not unusual for me to be having a hard time finding a game to play nowadays, due to the slower and fewer releases of AAA games not to mention lack of quality due to bad ports. And the indie scene can be very hit and miss. I miss the days of my youth where I could play through 5 games in the space of a month with ease, all of which I really liked (back in the late 90's early 00's). In the last 5 or so years however I'd be hard pressed to list half a dozen games I've thoroughly enjoyed that released in that time period. So a bit about my gaming experience. I started in the early 90's on already dated hardware, like the Atari 2600jr and original Gameboy. My most active gaming period however was during the mid to late 90's using a PC and PS1, moving into the 00's with the PC and PS2. Mid 00's however is where things started going downhill, and I put that down to the lowering in the number and quality of games that started around the PS3/Xbox 360 period. Games I've played and enjoyed in no particular order in the last 5 or so years. Lords of the Fallen Darksiders 2 DMC Devil may Cry 4 Dark Souls 1 - 2 (didn't stick with them though (not finished a single play through) Monster Hunter Series Ori and the Blind Forest Alice Madness Returns Saints Row 4 Diablo 3 FireFall MechWarrior Online Tera Online SMITE Ok so there is probably a few I've missed, but right now I cant think of any more. Considering im thinking back 5 years, that's not a long list, and some of those games are not exactly new, DMC 4 for example is 7 years old. Some of those games have aspects I don't particularly like, yet have others that I really really like..usually means I don't fully complete them but still I enjoyed them for the time I played them..im looking at Dark Souls in particular here. I loved the difficulty, hated the sluggish combat. That said, Monster Hunter could be considered to have sluggish combat but I love it, I just wish there was a newer version on the PC instead of having to use my old PSP 1000 or using an emulator. If I had to choose 2 games I wish I could play similar games to . it would be DarkSiders 2, and Alice Madness Returns. I like RPG elements like character building, platforming, puzzle solving, and fast twitch combat. I hate quick time events and similar gameplay where u press a button to watch ur character do something complex, like in the latest Tomb Raider games, Batman and the like. Its flashy, but its not exactly the player doing the work. And I REALLY dislike short games (though ill still play a good game if its short), and by short I mean the CORE of the gameplay, not NewGame+, not collectables, not achievements.. just the core game. Lords of the Fallen I recently completed only took around 15 hours, that's short, I hated that it ended so quick, but I liked the game with the exception of a few things like the crappy port quality, crashing, and the somewhat infuriating sluggish responding combat... I still somehow enjoyed it and wished it didn't end. So , long post, but I hope I give some idea of what im looking for. Any1 have any recommendations ? They can be new, upcoming, or old games. For PC or emulated console. Cheers

Easy to begin, yet trickingly tough when challenges arise, and endlessly fun to play through again.

Played Space Engineers occasionally, but it doesn’t stick for long. Skyrim always appealed to me in terms of visuals and length, though I dislike its combat style—it really doesn’t suit me. Same with ESO after testing; it didn’t hook me. KSP is entertaining to watch, but again, I can’t play it solo for extended periods. I found it a bit off recently and wasn’t interested. Others have looked into Assassins Creed too, but the action feels rushed to me. I might give it another shot though—it’s solid. In fact, checking the Xenoblade Dolphin texture thread on their forums shows people contributed to it, including some work on starting area textures. I’ve played the game but haven’t played enough to finish.
