This occurred yesterday for the second time. Windows automatically installs GPU drivers even though I already have the newest ones from AMD. The first incident happened a few months ago. Before turning off my PC, I manually searched for updates in settings. One update listed as “Advanced Micro Devices - Display - [numbers]” appeared. After installation, my monitors briefly turned off before coming back on. I also found Windows had downgraded my drivers again. Similar to the first time, I’m planning to use DDU and reinstall the latest drivers. How can I prevent this from happening again? I’ve already tried disabling automatic downloads in “Device Installation Settings” and choosing “No” for custom icons. That didn’t work because it was set after the previous issue. I know there’s another option using the Local Group Policy Editor, but I couldn’t access it. It seems the tool is only available on Windows 11 Pro, not Home. What other steps can I take?

When you run DDU, you bypass the cleaning process and can choose whether to enable or disable driver updates for Windows. This means you can switch it on or off directly from there. The result is that Windows won't automatically download drivers anymore.

Find the details in Advanced Options, specifically Windows Update. Alternatively, search online for confirmation.

I experienced the same problem. After every update, I checked whether the download option was still active. Eventually, the driver updates ceased to download. It was quite inconsistent. However, for me, the issue has now resolved.

Does it halt downloads of non-GPU drivers? I’m not certain which other drivers Windows manages besides the graphics card.

I'll take a look at this when I get home later today. I did a lot of searching the night before, but didn't find many other options besides what I already talked about.

I didn’t locate that discussion during my last search, yet trying the Microsoft Show or Hide utility appears to be worth exploring. I’ll try it out once I’m back home tonight.

The guidance for stopping automatic downloads points to the same section in system properties. It offers another method to reach the same outcome.
