Try another method to redirect the Vortex mod manager, as the current approach isn't working.
I've been using Skyrim SE via the Windows Store because it's free with a game pass. This build is too restrictive for mods like SKSE, so I've skipped them. My goal is to be more creative, which means using SKSE. I downloaded the Skyrim Anniversary edition 1.642 and manually set the installation path. That worked initially. Then I reinstalled all my mods, but it failed—files kept disappearing and the game crashed. I also tried launching through SKSE64, but Vortex blocked most of the mods except Diverse Dragons. Vortex complained about the files included with the anniversary edition. Eventually, when I used the Vortex button to start the game, it launched from the Microsoft Store version instead. This might explain why I couldn't mod the newer version; Vortex was still linked to the MS store build. How can I redirect Vortex to a separate install? Thanks!
