Hello everyone,

I’m sorry for my limited English skills. I own an old HP Pavilion g7 laptop and recently updated its OS two months ago. Now my download speed is only 4-5Mbps, whereas it should be 30-40Mbps. Upload speed is still normal (20-30Mbps). At first, I thought the drivers might be the issue, so I installed new ones, but the problem persisted. After that, I tried older driver versions, but it didn’t help. I also attempted to install Windows 7, Windows 8, Kali, Backbox and Ubuntu, yet the speed issues remain. I’m not sure if the router is the problem since other devices work fine on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. I hope someone can assist me—I don’t know what to do anymore. Thank you in advance.

Browser and torrent speeds are comparable to those measured over short distances. The router is positioned roughly 7-8 meters away from the laptops without any barriers in between.

Are you using a 2.4GHz or 5GHz connection? Even on 2.4GHz you should still achieve around 30-60mbps, but for faster speeds you usually need to switch to the 5GHz network because it can go over 60-70mbps. If you share your HP G7 model or part number, I can check if there are specific drivers available for Windows 10 on your laptop's wireless chipset.

I'm linked to a 2.4GHz network. I'll inform you shortly about the precise device. Previously, Windows 10 and Wi-Fi functioned properly. EDIT: This issue occurs across various operating systems.

In any case, if you mention it worked better on Windows 7, it suggests driver conflicts with Windows 10, which is plausible for an older laptop. That's why I planned to look up the exact model number on HP's parts site to identify the internal WiFi card and check for manufacturer updates.

However, it seems the latest officially supported driver from HP is dated 2012. I recommend manually installing more recent drivers from the following URL. Extract the ZIP file to a folder on your desktop or another location, then right-click your wireless adapter in Device Manager and select "Update" with the local folder as the source.

For the download, you can use:

While I can't guarantee the automated installation from Driver Pack Solution works like any other third-party provider, I confirm the files are genuine. As always, make sure to back up your data before proceeding.
