I just assembled my first PC last week. It comes with an Asus TUF B450m-plus gaming motherboard, a Ryzen 5 3600x processor and 16GB DDR4-3600 SKILL RAM. I turned on DOHP and used the OC Tuner, then clicked OK. The screen is black, fans are running, but the system hasn’t started yet after about three hours. Is this typical? How long would it take to finish and what could happen if I stopped it midway?
The three-hour session is quite long, and I generally don’t like those automatic OC settings. It seems to have crashed unexpectedly. Clearing the CMOS by removing the coin-cell battery on the motherboard for ten minutes, then reinserting it and trying to boot again worked. The 3600X already reaches its performance limit on its own, so overclocking probably only gives a small improvement.
Avoid using Auto CPU OC. It doesn’t provide much benefit and the automatic options are at best confusing. If you’re looking for an OC, do it correctly and educate yourself beforehand.
