Tried using it in an adapter but it still doesn’t work.
Acquired a new NVME SSD to swap with my M.2 SATA SSD. Since my MOBO only has one M.2 slot, I installed an adapter to connect both devices at once. The motherboard recognized the new drive without issues, but the SATA port where the adapter and old SSD were connected showed up as empty. After removing the old SSD and reinserting it into the M.2 slot, the MOBO detected it but labeled it incorrectly (e.g., SanDisk SSD G5 BICS4 instead of WD Blue) and refused to boot from it. Anyone have insight on this situation? This was my sole drive in the system, so I need a solution quickly.
I took it out just to be safe. If needed, I can switch to another adapter, but right now I’m concerned about not being able to boot from the old drive and what I can do about it.
Have you ever installed an operating system on the new NVMe? You might need to reset your secure boot keys so the previous one loads. You could also adjust some security settings. After updating the BIOS once, my Windows drive wouldn’t boot at all. I disabled secure boot, tried booting again, but it worked. Still no clear reason. You could also test with the default BIOS configuration.
It seems there might have been some issues with the adapter, possibly due to poor connections or static interference. I'm in a similar situation—I recently purchased a new SSD and also needed an adapter, but it worked fine as a secondary drive. It's hard to say what happened without more details. You mentioned using different adapters at various speeds; could you share the product pages for both the adapter and the SSD?
