Transitioning to a 10G fiber network upgrade
Transitioning to a 10G fiber network upgrade
Hey everyone, I’m managing a small business and I need to improve our network setup. My idea is to install one main switch (Dell N1524P) and connect 2-3 devices (Zyxel XGS10-10-12) using fiber cables with UPC LC duplex OM3 multimode. These should be powered by Cisco SFP-10G-SR transceivers. On certain workstations and the server, I want to add a 10G Mellanox ConnectX3 MCX311A-XCAT 1 Port NIC. Do I need to adjust anything or can I go ahead with the order? Also, I’m thinking about upgrading our Wi-Fi with new Wi-Fi 6 access points, but I’m still weighing the cost. Someone might be able to advise me since fiber isn’t my main focus.
The main challenge with fiber is confirming your transceivers work with the switch you intend to use. Certain suppliers restrict compatibility to specific models.
