I upgraded my PC with a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM, moving from Sandybridge to Skylake (Z67 to B150). The main reason I hesitated was laziness—no need to reinstall Windows 10. Since I installed the full version, licensing shouldn’t be an issue. In a last-ditch effort, I wondered if it’s possible to transfer the entire operating system to the new hardware. I’ve changed the motherboard before and after rebooting, Windows 8.1 worked fine. I’m just hoping for a similar solution. Thanks for your help ahead of time.

If you swap the motherboard, it’s likely to break your key, so a new OS setup is usually better. A fresh installation also means no old drives or unnecessary drivers. It’s frustrating, but I try to do this whenever I make significant changes to my system.
