Transition from Ryzen 3000 to 5000 or 7000 series models
I’ve been reflecting on this a lot. Right now I have a Ryzen 9 3950X, but it’s not what I need anymore. I’m thinking about switching to a Ryzen 7, though I’m unsure whether a 5000 or 7000 would be the right choice. Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X or 5800X3D seems like a solid step, but a 7700X or 7800X3D is a big jump. The main concern is whether the extra cost for new motherboard, RAM, cooler, and case is worth it. My AIO is getting outdated and my current case isn’t providing enough airflow. So I’m wondering if it’s better to invest in the latest specs now or stick with what I have and wait a few years for AM5, DDR5 improvements.
What RAM do you currently have? If it's 3600MHz, I believe a 5800X3D with a B550 Tomahawk motherboard would be a solid upgrade. But if you're okay spending a bit more for the best options available, what is your budget for the new CPU, motherboard, cooler, and possibly a Ryzen 7000? Also, which country are you in? For this question, I think it's worth staying on AM4 and letting it develop fully. Consider getting the 5800X3D, possibly fitting it into your existing motherboard, especially if it's a strong one. Don't forget to pair it with a CPU cooler.
