Do you have any Windows 11 users here who can share their thoughts on the current version? Windows 10 seems to be a persistent reason for upgrading, yet I’m cautious since I need confidence that my equipment, games, and software will function smoothly after the change. Are you aware of the overall condition of the OS right now? Would switching be a good decision given my setup?
Not recommended at the moment unless you have an HDR monitor, as there are additional improvements for HDR but overall it performs similarly to W10 with more issues right now... some features are poorly designed and could make your PC difficult to use. If you believed the search experience in W10 was poor... well, that’s a different story.
Consider using software such as Macrium Reflect or Aeomi to capture a snapshot of your existing drive, test a flash drive setup, then proceed to upgrade to Windows 11 yourself. Alternatively, perform a clean installation. Keep a backup of your current system ready, giving you flexibility to explore the new interface and ensure compatibility with your applications and games.
I recommend following what @DigitalGoat advised. If you're interested in Windows 11, make sure to perform a clean install and avoid upgrading. I don’t have the experience of dealing with messy old installs of 10 that upgraded and later faced problems. A fresh setup is always better.
The OS works great. However, for the best experience, wait until the next version of Windows 11 coming up later this year (prob Oct). In terms of stability, performance, compatibility, and support, it is excellent. In terms of polish, wait until the next version of Windows 11. Lots and lots of improvement (the majority is minor stuff, but it all ad\ds up to deliver a superior experience). Depending on your system specs, you may need to ensure that you have the latest UEFI/BIOS installed on your motherboard. Of course, ensure that you have the absolute latest drivers for everything once you upgrade. Pay special focus for chipset drivers. My personal recommendation for upgrades (beside suggesting a clean installation to be favored). If you have any security software, uninstall it before upgrading. Re-install them once you have installed Windows 11. Make sure you have all your software updated to the latest version, including installed Games. (This is related to DRM and Anti-Cheat systems which tend to be in the form of poorly made drivers and can cause issues with the upgrade process) You should be fine. Windows 11 is based on Windows 10.
