Transferring Windows...

So google is getting me questionable results. I, like most people, upgraded windows 7 home premium to Windows 10. This is a RETAIL copy, so I hear it can be transferred? I wish to transfer it to my new computer that I will be ordering shortly ( https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BNfF6X ), however I have no desire for linux or the illegality of pirating Windows. Is it even possible to transfer or is google giving me bad info, and if it is possible will I get Windows 10 or Windows 7? Thanks!

You can move it either by starting fresh or by copying your existing drive. Because you're switching systems instead of swapping drives, a fresh installation is recommended.

I recommend checking Windows 7 for better stability, but both versions are supported on Windows 10. You can find detailed instructions on Microsoft’s official support site or trusted tech forums.

Ensure the device is linked to your Microsoft account for Windows 10. Keep your Product Key ready for Windows 7. For a fresh setup, obtain an ISO file for your desired operating system. Prepare a bootable USB drive of at least 8GB using tools like Microsoft's utility or Rufus. Insert the USB into the computer and follow the prompts—enter the key when prompted (Windows 7) or let the installation proceed automatically (Windows 10). If transferring the same drive, simply connect it to the new system and reactivate via the provided method or online service.
