Sure, you can move Windows 10 from your old laptop to a new PC and activate it. Make sure to back up any important data first.

On a laptop, you must have purchased Windows from a retailer as a paid software, such as upgrading from Windows 7 to 10 or using Windows 10 on a laptop or desktop store. It should be an OEM license that cannot be transferred.

You could relocate the storage drive from the laptop into another PC, but it wouldn’t work on the new system since the original license is an OEM license that can’t be moved. You’d need a fresh license because it isn’t transferable.

You can move it to a different hardware model when you bought the Retail Version of the OS. If it’s included with the laptop, it’s likely an OEM and you won’t be able to transfer it.

New updates for Win10 enable hardware modifications even with OEM, provided your Windows account is connected to a Microsoft account. There’s no clear reason it wouldn’t function if prebuilt—you’ve already invested and it’s your operating system. You might just need to retrieve the license key using a dedicated tool. I believe it could work.

Varies by hardware brand, though it can occasionally function
