Transferring the operating system?
So this is kinda embarrassing to ask, but I'm looking to do a brand new build, but I need an operating system (Windows 10) to put on my new SSD. I really don't want to shell out another $100 though, is there a way I can transfer my Win10 subscription on my crappy pre-build pc to my SSD for my new rig? Thanks. (also is there any compatibility issues going along with this? I connected the hard drive of my crummy pre-build to my gaming desktop, but the performance was absolutely terrible in games. Like 1-2 frames. Was this due to no supported drivers because the pre-built had integrated graphics, or something else?)
The most effective solution is purchasing a Windows 7 license for roughly $20 and performing the complimentary upgrade to Windows 10.
You can find fresh Windows versions on reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap for prices between $25 and $35.
I upgraded to an SSD and copied the old hard drive onto the new one. Could you try something similar? I don’t recall the name of the tool you used. If you’d like, I can check it for you later tonight when you’re home. EDIT: This was Windows 7. I’m not sure if that would help, but I’m not certain.
These are designed with safety in mind. You don’t need to download anything to your device; instead, you receive a disk or key via email.
Using PayPal or platforms offering refunds won't cause issues. Cloning isn't 100% accurate, which makes me cautious. Once you obtain a key, download it from the provided Microsoft link onto an USB drive. Note: You should receive the key promptly after purchase, though results may vary by location.
