I’m planning to rebuild my computer today. The motherboard failed, causing a delay (specs available). I’m curious if I can move my Steam games to the new 640GB drive before installing the new OS. Should I transfer everything there or download them again?

Transfer all games to the new drive, then open Steam and instruct it to install from that location.

Move the steamapps folder to your new Windows installation and it will work perfectly. Open Steam and installing games will automatically detect the folders already present.

Interesting, I hadn't encountered anything like this before. Now it's time to save 500gb of games.
