Transferring a striped volume (raid 0) on Windows
Got a Ryzen 3950x on a great deal yesterday, so I’m swapping platforms from my current i9-9900k. I’ve got a striped volume with two 1TB 850 EVO drives set up in Windows Disk Management as my game drive. I’ll keep the OS drive and all the installed software, but I’ll need to transfer everything again if I create a new striped volume after the board change.
You can restart your current setup without reinstalling since the data lives in the registry and isn't tied to BIOS hardware RAID. In the worst scenario you might not see your drives, but Windows won’t damage them or format them without your consent. I’d look up Google for plug-stripped volumes for a second machine to confirm. If it’s a simple process, I suggest booting your new hardware using only the old system and install the drivers once the OS adapts to the new hardware.
