She’s considering moving the Windows 7 setup from her old laptop to a new desktop drive. Since she plans to replace the laptop with a new one for school, you might be able to reuse the hard drive, but using it on a different motherboard could cause issues. Windows may reject the installation if it’s not compatible with the new hardware.

Consider transferring the entire hard drive. It might be worth checking first.

It's unfortunate, but I have a Windows installation disk. If necessary, I might need to crack it. The current strategy is to use some transferred or cracked Windows 7 until she starts attending school. Typically, a Windows license costs around $15 at the campus computer store (or at least I can purchase it there as a backup option).

Discussing such topics violates CoC rules. Also, laptop operating systems are branded, so you can't install them on another motherboard. There might be some compatibility issues, but generally they won't work.
