You don't seem to have Epic Games installed, but your son uses it for certain applications. His folder lacks additional .dll files. I have a substantial Steam collection and both folders appear tidy. I’m not sure what the extra files are from. I haven’t deleted anything yet. You might consider moving the SteamApps directory to another location on the same drive to test. Alternatively, you could try recreating the folder structure and see if it resolves the issue. Unless you switched accounts or settings, the system will only display games with valid licenses. It should function properly. I’ve handled many installations, reinstalled Windows, updated Steam, and swapped drives—everything works fine. I started with a 14 TB drive and followed similar steps.
I’m not overly concerned about the big games I downloaded; they’re mostly functional and I don’t use them much. However, I’m more interested in Steam games that I can reinstall without taking up too much space. When I check the folders, I see they’re saved on the hard drive, so I don’t want to reinstall them. I was considering moving non-Steam files into a separate folder, but it still shows up as using storage even though everything should be there. Selecting the whole folder shouldn’t have helped, and the Steam app kept trying to create another one without success.
I finally got it to function, so I moved everything I thought was outside of Steam. Deleted the SteamLibrary folder it generated, renamed my folder to SteamLibrary, and then Steam stopped trying to access the drive. It asked me to pick another location, which was the first time that option showed up, and I chose the new SteamLibrary folder. After that, everything downloaded properly. Now I need to make sure my desktop icons display real images instead of just globes or white backgrounds.
