Hi, I just purchased GTA V on Steam and placed it in a specific folder structure. I realized that Steam uses separate folders for each game, which means any new install would go into a different location. The issue is that renaming or moving the Grand Theft Auto 5 folder to another path isn’t working as expected.

Transfer the GTA folder to a pre-set location in Steam, then remove existing local files within Steam, after that click download. Choose the designated new directory for GTA V, and Steam will prompt you with a message indicating files are already present, validating them before proceeding. The process duration is similar to the backup and restore option mentioned earlier.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I've completed the process.
1. Moved the steamapps folder to the root directory.
2. Removed the Steam installation files from J:\Steam\Grand Theft Auto 5.
3. Deleted all except Steam.exe and the steamapps folder from the Steam installation path in D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
4. Launched Steam.exe.
5. Downloaded several new files (~100MB) and restarted.
6. Chose Swipecart for testing the install.
7. Clicked Install, then selected the root folder.
8. Success! All existing games were detected.
