You're planning a transition from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on your laptop, with a Windows trial version already installed. Since you're moving to a desktop and only have a trial license, you might explore options like using the trial on your current machine or checking if your provider offers a free upgrade path. If you decide to switch to a new PC, consider downloading the latest Windows 10 installer from Microsoft or using a reputable source to avoid extra costs.

You might try drive cloning, but it could cause problems if programs don’t run correctly or get disabled. I recommend moving your files to another drive and performing a fresh Windows installation using the key you have for your laptop.

Can the same activation code be used on multiple computers? I'm a bit confused.

You may need to reach out to support and inform them you wish to use Windows again, not that you can't have it on your laptop. If you want to keep using your laptop, you'll need to purchase a new license.

You can copy the laptop’s storage to a desktop drive, though you may face problems like missing drivers or hardware mismatches. It’s better to perform a fresh Windows 10 installation instead.

You could create a backup of your current drive and then use that copy to install Windows 10 instead of buying a new one.

Cloning isn't recommended, particularly when switching from a laptop to a desktop. If your new system runs Windows 7, perform a fresh installation and use the automated activation service with the key from your existing laptop. This method has succeeded for me, though you must ensure compatibility—Home Premium won't unlock Ultimate, etc.

I should reach out to Microsoft support and inquire about reactivating Windows 7.

When setting up Windows, there should be a choice to enable activation through a mobile device. Proceed with that.

Yes, that's correct. When you reach the activate windows option, look for the 'by phone' choice and confirm it. It typically proceeds through an automated system. If not, contact a customer support representative and mention your laptop has stopped working, explaining you're using this key on a new setup you created. They often provide an activation code.
