Transfer data using the login details into a fresh notebook.
Good day, everyone! I’m about to save some information right now—while setting up a fresh notebook. In the meantime, this past year I’ve done a few things: moving data and credentials from a Windows machine to Linux, and I’m also working on re-importing FileZilla settings. To be honest, most FTP services use basic login like usernames and passwords. But I need more: if I’m connecting to a server where authentication is required, I must save the XML file somewhere. FileZilla doesn’t handle key files well, and standard formats aren’t supported. Where does the XML file actually come from? Maybe it could be imported via PuTTY or Pageant. If the keys are saved in the registry, I can follow the steps I took before and now try again. Please find the details below—thanks a lot!
Not many issues here. However, it would really simplify the setup if I could just install openssh-server on the target machine. I’d only need to open a single port in the firewall and then use rsync to move all files there. But I can’t do that directly. Instead, I have to use FileZilla... A quick update: I discovered more ways to transfer the keys/credentials from one notebook to another—details on steps, paths, and methods. Right now I’m stuck during the holiday season: “extra work” means setting up FileZilla on a fresh notebook and figuring out the next steps. I’ve tried to clarify everything, searched online for hours, but I’m not sure if I missed anything. I need to port the data (credentials) from one notebook to another: probably I’ll have to do it in this way—please help me review my assumptions. If I need to add extra steps, maybe run ls -l /home/ubuntu/Dokumente/_webserver_/ and then edit the private key file accordingly. That way I can secure it properly, for example by copying to a USB drive and moving it to the new system. Once that’s done, FileZilla should work fine on the new machine with the correct key. Thanks for your help! Happy holidays and a great season to everyone.
