Looking for reliable PC monitor tools? Options include Windows Gadgets that display CPU cores, RAM usage, and more. Some provide detailed stats while others may be resource-intensive. You're already familiar with hwmonitor and cpuid—consider exploring alternatives for better accuracy or lighter performance.

On Windows 8, the Task Manager offers more features than earlier versions. Additional tools like SpeedFan and CPU-Z/GPU-Z are also available.

Rainmeter works reasonably well. I stick to the standard illustro design, leaving out the welcome offer and time-related features. It runs smoothly on my old Dell without any performance problems.

On Win 7 you need an app that appears on the desktop like Rainmeter or Windows Gadgets. It should work with your CPU and GPU settings.

I rely solely on Speedfan and find HWMonitor's readings quite unreliable. Sometimes I saw temperatures showing 600°C.
