I recently chose to install a Plex media server on Ubuntu 16.04. Setting it up was straightforward once the server was ready. I needed a method to receive alerts if Plex stopped functioning, and I considered tools like Spiceworks Network Monitor. However, running an extra server for that would add unnecessary complexity. Through some investigation, I discovered the Pushbullet API allows sending messages from any Linux server to your phone or Chrome. This fits perfectly because it works on my Ubuntu Server with Plex and uses minimal resources. I designed my scripts to automatically restart the service and send notifications. I included an example message for clarity: “I’m considering creating a tutorial on this setup.” Are you interested in such a guide? P.S.: I’m not highly skilled in scripting or Linux, it took me some time to understand.
