Tplink drivers software
Just discovered some tplink cards aren't functioning properly. I received the Archer T6E v2, which claims speeds up to 1300Mbps on Wi-Fi. However, my tests showed only around 54Mbps, and the website lists a maximum of 400Mbps on the 2.4GHz band. It seems the drivers are restricting performance significantly. I found a workaround by installing Broadcom BCM43xx drivers, which boosted speeds to about 300Mbps. Still, it's far from the advertised numbers. The 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands have fixed limits—around 20Mbps and 250Mbps respectively. It looks like some issues are common or tied to specific hardware configurations. Are these speeds typical for tplink? Is this a widespread problem with their drivers?
The 1300 rating is misleading marketing. It’s based on combining the total bandwidth of a 5GHz network with a 2.4GHz network into one figure. In practice, a typical Wi-Fi 5 card usually reaches about 350mbps in real-life situations when placed near the router.
Based on what you're explaining about the 5GHz network, it appears to be performing as expected with the intended speed. Manufacturers often exaggerate performance for marketing purposes. On 2.4GHz you can typically achieve speeds of around 60-80 Mbps under perfect conditions. If this is misleading, then most Wi-Fi card makers are involved in such practices.
The issue with drivers remains frustrating. Installing them for another device often improves performance. The driver was restricted to Wi-Fi 4—why? Was TP Link making a mistake or acting carelessly? I’m not sure how it happened.
