Playing games with a touchpad is extremely frustrating. Using a controller offers better performance, or even a better experience for certain titles.

there are numerous touchpads available that restrict mouse movement when a key is pressed, designed to prevent simultaneous typing and mouse use for palm rejection. this limits interaction to touchpad-only experiences like card games or turn-based actions (such as Darkest Dungeon, CIV, Auto Battlers). you can't engage in first-person or highly active gameplay (no RTS or MOBA content). if you're focusing on titles that support keyboard use only—like emulator games, NES, SNES, or Game Boy games—mouse isn't needed at all.
